Cluster Reserve State Over-Committed

Hello All,

We are using SCVMM 2012 R2 with UR 5. I am running 6-nodes Hyper-V hosts' cluster. The cluster is showing Cluster Reserve State: Over-Committed.

Following are the details of memory of our hosts:

Host:                         Available Memory              Total Memory
Physical01                   88.56 GB                           192 GB
Physical02                   89.17 GB                           192 GB
Physical03                  152.64 GB                           192 GB
Physical04                   62.01 GB                           192 GB
Physical05                   87.72 GB                            192 GB
Physical06                   64.85 GB                             96 GB

Size of the VM with largest memory = 36 GB

Therefore, Slot Size = 36 GB

Why is our cluster over-committed when at least 62 GB memory is free on each of my host (much more than the Slot Size)?

As far as I know, the Number of Free Slots in the cluster should be greater than the Number of Slots in a host. If the Number of free slots is less than the total number of slots in a host, then the cluster is over-committed.

Can anyone please help and guide me that why my cluster is over-committed even when there is at least one slot free on each my nodes.

Thank you.

Regards,

Hasan Bin Hasib
