We are facing a troubling issue with System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) 2016 UR5 when Bare Metal Deploying to a physicalHPhost. All is going well and the bare metal process is nearly complete when we get the following error: HRESULT 0x803381fa. (see screen capture below)
While there have been rare occasions where the installation completes successfully however the next attempt(s) will fail. There does not appear to be any clear reason why we are failing. In fact it is quite random. We have eliminated group policy, post install scripts, IPV6, VHDx images, patches are up to the new July 24th release in both the VMM hosts (which are clusters for SCVMM) and in the VHDx image. Frankly it seems like a timing issue within VMM. It is as if the process does not wait long enough for the host to finish the completion of the switch (called converged switch in our case) before it starts requesting progress and then fails the entire process. I am no expert but take note of the timing in the verbose log included below. It seems theswitch creation was initiated @ 2018-07-19 17:33:46.257 and then the VMM sequence started checking for progress @2018-07-19 17:33:46.299 and 2018-07-19 17:33:51.301 however it then fails @ 2018-07-19 17:34:17.974 that is less than one minute later!!?
In a large domain environment, where DNS replication takes time and SCVMM may be far removed from the hosts, timing may come into play. In our three weeks of pounding our head on the wall, it seems to be a timing issue we are facing. Question: can we allow for more time for this switch creation process and progress checks to complete before we fail the whole task? A few minutes after the deployment, the "failed" host willappear green within the SCVMM console with the converged switch created (although some port configurations are missing). So it appears that even though the bare metal deployment fails, the process was in fact completed. But some final steps are missed. Thank you for any ideas or suggestions.

This may be related to a recent restart of the WS-Management service. Please create a new client session and retry the operation if re-executing the operation does not have undesired behavior.
