Not so much a question as a statement, just in case somebody else finds it useful...
A few days ago I found I couldn't connect to any VM consoles using SCVMM 2016, with it presenting the following dialogue (note the correct spelling of "dialogue :-) ):
"An unknown error occurred while executing the PowerShell script:
The connection to the VMM management server [servername] was lost. Ensure that [servername] is online and that you can access the server remotely from your computer. Then connect to [servername] and try again using the new connection. Or, you can ensure that the Virtual Machine Manager service is started on [servername]... ID: 27235".
Similar errors when refreshing a virtual machine, or attempting to view a virtual machine's properties - it would say that the VM configuration was corrupt.
If I uninstalled SCVMM console and re-installed, it was fine, then stopped working later. To cut a long story short, it seems that Windows Updates was installing KB4496921 (released 23 July 2019) which broke it, every time.
I have blocked the update using the "show or hide updates tool" from here.
