Hello,
Running SCVMM 2016 Update Rollup 8.
I currently have a failover cluster of two Hyper-V hosts running Windows 2016 and an SMB3 file server on Windows Storage Server 2012 R2.
I have a VM that I use as a file server. This VM has two VHDX attached: a 40GB VHDX file for the C: drive and a 16TB VHDX file for the D: drive.
The 40GB C: drive is stored locally on the Hyper-V host. The 16TB D: drive is stored on the SMB3 storage server. The VM itself is not in a high availability configuration.
I want to migrate this virtual machine to the other cluster node. I'm able to live-migrate other virtual machines with no problem if they don't use external storage, but this one fails because the destination host does not have enough free space. (I'm even
able to live migrate between different clusters, so I don't think that's a clustering issue)
Both Hyper-V hosts have access to the file share where the 16TB VHDX is located, so I only want to migrate the 40GB drive and all the other stuff (config & memory). When I right-click on the cluster -> Properties -> File Share Storage, the shared
folder is showing a green check mark.
The workaround I found was to detatch the VHDX from the file server and then migrate and re-attach it, but I would like to reduce the downtime. Other VMs have only a few seconds of downtime during live migration.
Is there a way I can do this?
Thanks
