SCVMM 2019 UR1 - remediation on S2D cluster timed out before hosts has restarted and completed update installation

We're currently are running into issue on multiple Clusters where the update remediation on Windows server 2016 Datacenter fails.

When I start the remediation on an S2D Cluster it successfully puts one of the cluster nodes into maintenance mode and the updates are download from the WSUS server and installed successfully.

When VMM orders the server to reboot the trouble starts.

During the shutdown the the update processing continues and the server will reboot as one would expect normally.

Apparently the updating/rebooting process takes to long VMM times out and failing to complete the cluster remediation job. (The node will eventually completes its update and startup process successfully).

Looking at the server screen, when VMM thinks the reboot is completed, the server screen shows "Stage 2 of 3, Setting up updates, Don't turn off your screen".

The result is that we end up with an S2D cluster where one node is updated but in maintenance mode and the other nodes are not updated. No workloads are moved back to the original node.

Can anyone explain why this happens?

Kind regards,

Hans
