I’m looking for some input on how to properly configure a VMM cloud or clouds based on certain requirements that we have. Here’s the overview: VMM 2012 R2 is in use. There are two separate development teams that will be creating and managing hyper-v virtual machines on a five node Windows 2012 cluster. SMB file share storage for the cluster is provided for by a NetApp SAN. There will be two file shares, one for each team. A requirement is that when a team member creates a virtual machine, it gets created on the team’s specific file share. Each team will be creating virtual machines on their own specific logical network.
The questions I have relate to how to get the cloud configured so that a cloud user role member creates a virtual machine on a specific file share. I see that you can now set up SMB Storage classifications in VMM 2012 R2. Here’s the question I have:
Would it be best to set up two separate VMM clouds over the same hyper-v cluster so that you can then assign a different storage classification to each cloud so that the User Roles assigned to the cloud will then create virtual machines on the specific file share associated with the storage classification that's assigned to the cloud?
Is there a better way to do this using only one cloud? Any feedback appreciated.
