We have a few virtual machines in our environment that for some reason have created their own, very small (around 30-60MB) VHD files. The weird thing is that if we remove the small VHD, the VM won't boot! It appears as if the small disk houses the OS or something. My initial thought was that this was just a differencing disk, but I don't think that's the case as I can't merge the disk to a parent using Edit Disk via Hyper-V.
I was wondering if anyone can provide some insight on this issue. I've looked online, but haven't found any information on this specific issue.
