I have hyper-v cluster 2016.
I installed SCVMM 2019 in windows server 2019.
when I delete a VM with VMM, the VM's VHD is not deleted.
I tried def delete VHD manually. But it fails.
The VHD file loses its ownership.

I tried to take the ownership. But it fails encore.

Recommended Action
Check the virtual switch name, and then try the operation again.

I dont have any other Switches configured on Hyper V host.

Having issues setting up VMM Gateway and run as account. Getting same error.

when trying to add a run as account I get the following error:

Virtual machine manager is unable to securely store the password information on this machine.  Ensure that the Microsoft cryptographic service has been installed and the VMM management server and try the operation again.  ID: 635

I have verified that the service is up and running.

I get the same error when trying to import service template.  This is a proof of concept setup using just 1 host with 10 VM guest running System Center 2019 .  All help is appreciated.

Access Denied for on node of clustered file server

I have a Hyper-V cluster managed by VMM using a general file server as VMM library.  The clustered file server is a guest cluster of VMs using shared VHD sets.

I've started to see Access Denied errors (0x80070005) using resources from the VMM library when the one specific node of the clustered file server is active. When the other node is active these Access Denied errors do not happen. These errors are also not showing up with normal file system access (e.g. through file explorer) regardless of which node is active.

I've checked the delegation and file system ACLs and they all appear correct - CIFS delegation to file server nodes and VIP from all hypervisor computer accounts, VMM service account and Hypervisor computer accounts read/execute permissions on all file server shares for VMM library.

I've restarted the troublesome node but no change.

Any other ideas as things to look at?

We are in the process of provisioning new Hyper-V hosts in our SCVMM 2019 environment. WDS is in place. The boot image is created with this script:

$mountdir = "c:\mount"
$winpeimage = "\\wdsserver\c$\RemoteInstall\DCMgr\Boot\Windows\Images\boot.wim"
$winpeimagetemp = $winpeimage + ".tmp"
$path = "\\fileserver\vmm-library\HPE\ProLiant\Drivers\storage\"

copy $winpeimage $winpeimagetemp

dism /image:$mountdir /add-driver /driver:$path /Recurse
Dism /Unmount-Wim /MountDir:$mountdir /Commit
publish-scwindowspe -path $winpeimagetemp -verbose
del $winpeimagetemp

and then some traffic over TCP 8101 (SSL scrambled, 10 client pkts, 3 server pkts, 5 turns, 12kb data in total).

What can be the cause of this issue? After troubleshooting already for some days, the only thing I can think of that is not correct is the time within the WinPE boot session (exact 7 hours offset). I already tried injecting the correct timezone in the image but it doesn't help.

What can I do to further troubleshoot this? Thanks for your replies!

System Center Virtual Machine Manager for ...dummies?

Hi folks,

I wonder how one can learn SC VMM 2012 r2 from the very scratch?

SC VMM freakin' 2012r2

There are some articles on the web but not many courses especially when we talk about 2012r2. The only exam that is, is 70-745 but this one is for 2016:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/learning/exam-70-745.aspx

Plus there is only 1 book available on the market.

https://www.microsoftpressstore.com/store/exam-ref-70-745-implementing-a-software-defined-datacenter-9781509303823

Any clues would be welcomed. I need some videos and course with labs...

VMM service crashing following 2012 to 2016 upgrade

$

I've run across this issue twice while upgrading 2012 R2 standalone VMM servers. In the first instance we just rebuilt the VMM server, but since it has resurfaced, I'm curious if there are any suggestions to better troubleshoot.

Pre-upgrade:

Windows Server 2012 R2

SCVMM 2012 Update Rollup 14

SQL server 2014

Post-upgrade:

Windows Server 2019 1809

SCVMM 2016 Update Rollup 8

SQL server 2016

The upgrade process for standalone servers was followed (can't include a link here but it's the Microsoft documented process last updated 3/13/19) with the only exception being Server 2019 installed in place of 2016 for our operating system.

After starting the VMM service, it runs fine for anywhere between 6 hours and several days, at which point it hangs. The service is still reported as running and no logs are generated, but all console and all other application connections time out. Restarting the VMM service (or the entire VM) restores connectivity.

I'm hesitant to enable debug logging due to how long the trace may need to run to catch whatever is dying, but I'm thinking this might be the best option. All SQL, Windows Server, and other patches are in place.

Hi,

I have windows server 2012 R2 private cloud, I am receiving message on my system center virtual machine manager console.

Warning (20583)
The self-signed certificate for computer pr-host13.xd.com is either already expired or is about to expire within a month.

Recommended Action
Remove and add the r-host13.xd.com from VMM to get a new certificate.

But Certificate of Virtual machine manager server itself is also going to be expire soon. Please help how to solve this.

Hi All,

I couldn't find any way to install SCVMM PowerShell cmdlets on Linux. Am I wrong?

What are my options to integrate between SCVMM and a Linux machine?

I would like to get VM statisitics and send/pull to/from a Linux machine.

Cheers!

I have SCVMM 2019 and Hyper-V 2019 Cluster that have 4 nodes.
When I try Refresh node or Start Maintenance Mode I have to wait about 30 minutes that my job is finishes.
All working but I have to wait a lot of.

Hi,

Does VMM 2012 R2 support windows server 2019? Is there any update for VMM? Currently while deploying VMs, it does not show 2019 in the list of OSs.

Thanks.

Hello,

We have this strange issue - when I try to extend a .vhdx - the job fails, however the disk is expanded, but I need to run a Repair-SCVirtualMachine job afterwards.

Info about the enviroment:

Hyper-V 2016 Cluster with 16 hosts

HPE BL460c G9 blades running HPE 2018.03 SPP

The VM's are Veeam Replica VM's from a 2012 R2 Cluster, which has been made a Permanent Failover by Veeam.

If I tend to install a clean 2012, 2012 R2 or 2016 VM with bare OS, a Dynamic Disk at 30GB on the SCSI Adapter - and extends with 1GB, no problems.

So, it seems that were having issues with Veeam Replica VM's.

Any suggestions? :)

Fresh VMM Installation

Hi All,

Just need some guidance on the following.

Will be implementing a PROD and DR Hyper-V cluster, managed by VMM 2019. All Hyper-V Nodes will be 2019. VMM 2019 is also going be HA with SQL 2017 AG.

Now my question is the following. I'll be using VMM 2019 to manage the logical networks and switches of the new Hyper-V 2019 clusters, how would you go about installing VMM 2019.

Option 1:

Would you install VMM 2019 single node onto a single Hyper-V host with SQL 2017 and use this VMM node to configure the Hyper-V Networks, and switches then deploy to the Hyper-V clusters and create the cluster. Once the cluster is created move the VMM node over to the newly created cluster as well as the SQL Servers and add the additional VMM Node.

This ensures that VMM correctly deploys the logical switch and creates the vNICs accordingly on each Hyper-V host and then creates the hyper-V cluster.

Option 2:

Or would you create the Hyper-V networks/switches via Hyper-V Manager and then create the cluster and then create the fabric management on top. But with this it wont manage the Hyper-V switches/Networks.

I want everything managed by VMM 2019 including the logical switches/networks. I'm guessing that Option 1 is the more logical approach.

Any input on this would be great.

HI Team,

I want to confirm if SCVMM 2016 support shared nothing live migration between Hyper-V S2D cluster managed by same SCVMM servers.

I have environment where SCVMM 2016 with Hyper-V S2D Cluster are running on Old Hardware , these cluster are having 600 + Desktop machine which is delivered using citrix platform ,  now my requirement is to refresh hardware ..i mean migrate all server to new Hardware and S2D cluster without upgrading any component from 2016 to 2019.

what would be best approach ?
