SCVMM 2012 R2 RU2 - the vlan ID still not showing

$

Hello everyone,

I know that the VLAN ID not showing in the console was a bug reported after the migration from SCVMM 2012 SP1. We recently upgraded or SCVMM 2012 R2 RU1 to RU2 and after the upgrade we still face the issue. Is there something that I missed or something that I should do more?

Thanks

question about permission in VMM 2012

Hello.

I have SCVMM 2012 + RU2. I have created private cloud and Self-Service user. The Self-Service user is owner VM in this cloud.

The Self-Service User role has permissions (actions): Local Administrator, Remote connection, Save, Shut down, Start, Stop, Store and re-deploy.

And when the Self-Service user is going to change a media (by SCVMM console) in virtual DVD drive of VM then he gets an error – “Change properties of virtual machine - FAILED” and “Error 1401 - ” You do not have the permission required to perform this operation”.

But after I have added permission (action) – “Deploy” for the Self-Service user  then he can change a media in virtual DVD drive of VM. However, I would not give such permission (action).

The strange thing is, that a month ago it worked without “Deploy” permission immediately after installation RU2.

Any ideas ?

Hi I use Microsoft Test Manager to deploy lab machines in an SCVMM environment. If I try to deploy VM templates everything works fine right away. When I deploy a VM based on a stored VM (not a VM template) I always get an error on the SCVMM server "Error 2924 Unable to complete the request. Operation on the server xxx timed out." When I click repair afterwards in Test Manager it tries to deploy the VM again and then the operation succeeds. Any ideas what causes this error each time?

Hi Team

We have configured SQL Always on on SQL 2012 Sp1 Enterprise Edition to keep VMM Database in HA mode

and Installed SCVMM 2012 Sp1 in HA mode on 2 VM Machines

now we have configured File Scale out server on 4 Windows 2012 Hyper-V Servers which is part of Windows 2012 Cluster and Created Share folder over it

copied Sysprep Vhd's in Share folder

Added File Scale Out Server in SCVMM as a Library Server

Now, We are Provisiiong VM Machines, Sometimes 4-5 VM Machines are provisiong in Single go, Sometimes it gets failed

with mentioned error.

This has been a recurring problem. We found script to repair triggers but this keeps coming back. Our system is all 2012 R2 (hyper-V and SC VMM servers).

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/cba7de82-5206-469c-aaa0-44e8787f1188/vmmservice-crash-2012-sp1-ru2

The statement has been terminated.

General statement to pass to your SC product managers:

Dear Microsoft

It's apparent the technology stack including SC and Hyper-V was shipped full of bugs. These seem to be components you build for internal use, andthen ship under the guise of something that works. Who suffers?– we (the customer) do.

The Gen2 templatewas yet another betrayal, a crushed and broken dream.2012 images built on Gen 2 don’t seem to perform the simplest of tasks – make a template and then deploy a VM from template. None of the run once commands work.

Hyper-V itself is poor compared to ESX; its uses muchmore disk space to host equivalent data. The notion of differencing disks is a joke, as is shared ISO images. ESX does this by default. I guess we used it because we got it for free, or some false integration story? LOL - you get what you pay for.

Your own product owners give us misleading and confusing direction on where SC is even going. What is the future of service templates?

Eventually you will get there, I just wish you weren’t testing on customers.

Thanks for your attention to this matter

Expiration Date of VM in SCVMM 2012 R2

Till now i have been able to auto-provision the VMs using SCSM and Orchestrator. I would like to configure the solution to auto-expire the VMs when the user has finished using the VM for a temporary period. In SCVMM 2008 we had the feature. How can we do it in SCVMM 2012 R2?

Network Port Requirements for App Controller 2012 R2 - Or Some Decent Documentation

Hi,

Can anyone point me to documentation for the network ports requirements for App Controller 2012 R2?

I have been searching for detailed implementation and design documentation on App Controller 2012 R2 and I just cannot locate it. It seems like everything is dotted around in obscure places from different peoples blogs and posts. What happened to the days of everything being in the technet library. Seems that since 2012 R2 the stuff hasn't been updated? Or is this just me?

Uninstalling VMM

I have performed a clean install of VMM on another Server and want to remove VMM from the old Server. I am not concerned about moving the database etc., as I can rebuild this as I start to add the hosts and VM's again.

Is the below link the way to go about it or are there any precautions I should take. I am thinking about the DKM container in AD created when installing VMM, I have created a new VMMDKM container for the new VMM instance.

Equivalent Objects not being tagged when adding a new Library server

$

Hi everyone,

I'm struggling with a problem for which I've searched everywhere and cannot find any answer at all.

We are about to deploy 300 servers installed with Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard used as Hyper-V servers. These servers are mastered by a supplier using an image we have made for them and sent directly to each offices.

On each server, we have a directory called D:\<ServerName>_Lib shared as <ServerName>_Lib  (D:\S001H1_Lib shared as S001H1_Lib) hosting all our vhdx and answer files (50 Gb of data).

We have a central SCVMM 2012 R2 server to manage these servers.

We have created equivalent objects as follow :

Up to now, we have deployed 6 servers in the first phase of the project and when adding a new library, all objects were automatically tagged as equivalent.

We have added new servers on sunday and the objects are not tagged at all...

I've spent 2 days comparing each and every file.

HASH : identical / Rights on the directories and files : identical /Files : identical / Shared directories : Same rights (everyone and SYSTEM : full control)

I have done the following to try to understand what's going on :

First test :

- Copy the current directory (D:\<ServerName>_Lib) to C:\Temp on the server having the problem

- Delete the files from the library using SCVMM console --> All files are deleted on the remote server

- Copy back a file from the C:\Temp directory to the D:\<ServerName>_Lib

- Refresh the library in SCVMM

Result : Object not tagged as equivalent

Second test :

- Delete the files from the library using SCVMM console --> All files are deleted on the remote server

- Copy a file from the SCVMM central server library directory to the D:\<ServerName>_Lib

- Refresh the library in SCVMM

Result : Object tagged as equivalent

Can anyone help me with this issue please ?

Thanks in advance.

Cannot Add users or groups to System Center 2012 R2 App Controller

Hi,

I am unable to add a user or group to an App Controller user role as I get the following error:

The user or group name is not valid please enter a user or group name in the format "domain\name"

Our NETBIOS domain name has an underscore in it (DOMAIN_LOCAL) which looks to be the problem (domain created before my time).

Is there any workaround for this issue?

Thanks,

Machine cretion fail at BITS operations

Hello.

I'm having troubles since I upgrade 2012 SP1 to R2. Now vm creation fails when it has to transfer files:

Error (2912)
An internal error has occurred trying to contact the SRVHVPZG007.u-tad.es server: NO_PARAM: NO_PARAM.

WinRM: URL: [http://srvhvpzg007.u-tad.es:5985], Verb: [INVOKE], Method: [GetError], Resource: [http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/microsoft/bits/BitsClientJob?JobId={A9240B0E-855B-484D-B461-6B7C5F9FA7B4}]

Unknown error (0x80072f0d)

Recommended Action
Check that WS-Management service is installed and running on server SRVHVPZG007.u-tad.es. For more information use the command "winrm helpmsg hresult". If SRVHVPZG007.u-tad.es is a host/library/update server or a PXE server role then ensure that VMM agent is installed and running. Refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2742275 for more details.

I have tried:

- Updating to CU2

- Removing the host cluster, deleting certificates and reassigning

- Changing the BITS ports and restarting services

I have also created a new library, and ceated a template with files in the new library. Now the cm creation task succesfully copies the disk, but the it fails at "Install VM components". I tried removing the default library, which was hosted by the VMM server, deleted the certificates, but it still fails. I don't know what else to do.

Setting up a new FC Attached VM

I have been through the ringer but have finally arrived at the point where i have the following working.

  • VNX5300 is seen through SMI, has attached to a Storage Pool with a classification
  • Through the SMI Agent using the 12.1.5 HP San Network Advisor (Professional Version) to attach to both my fabrics and see the zonesets.

Here is where it gets weird.  I assume that I see both an active and an inactive zoneset because thats how zones are configured, saved and then made active.  However, when I look at the zone list for the active set, I zones and counts of their members.  But the inactive one shows nothing.  Also, i understand that I should see the zone connections when i look at the hosts I should see their connections to the zones.

The VMs show the zones they are connected.

My question is that it seems that i have imcomplete information and I hesitate to connect vms to the SAN until i know it is going to disrupt my already functioning SAN.  It seems that there is a best practice that there should be a zone for every connection between two devices.  Now i know it is better (and have setup) zones to separate traffic and connections but this one to one seems overly complex.

Because of this, i dont want to make a change that 'looks' like it will affected the rest of the fabric.  There is so little REAL documentation on what SCVMM does and does not do when connected to a fabric.  It took a while just to get my HP brocade fabrics to even properly talk to SCVMM and now that it is here, i feel i am missing something.

Automatic Start Actions for a Virtual Machine

Hi ,

We configure some VMs on a cluster

the default setting of automatic Start action is set to Nothing

when the cluster is down of hyper-v service is stopped  , once the problem is solved , All VM will be run as it was running before the problem happened

So What is different between the following options of automatic Start action

  • Nothing
  • Automatically start if it was running when the service is stopped

And do you know why it is st for standalone Host not for the cluster as per this thread

Script sources missing in Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 Evaluation

The System Center 2012 R2 Evaluation Guide contains a link to a file called 'Datacenter Evaluation Deployment Tool.msi' on page 19. This file is supposed to contain installation/configuration scripts provided by Microsoft to help set up a 2012 R2 datacenter evaluation footprint.

However, the link gets redirected to a general download page.

Can someone please let me know where to find these scripts?

Thanks in advance!

VMM 2012 upgraded to VMM2012 R2, domain users can login but can't deploy VM's

$

We had a fully functional VMM 2012 system running prior to OS and VMM upgrades, i'll give some background to how it looked when it was working.

Server 1: SCVMM Server, Host & Library: Server 2008 R2 & SCVMM 2012

Server 2: Host & Library only: Server 2008 R2

Server 3: VMM Database location: Server 2008 R2

Server 4: Host running 2008R2 (This was not upgraded)

All three of these servers are located within our SYSENG domain, VMM console users logged in using there company domain credentials (We had a one-way trust between the two domains.)

We upgraded all 3 above servers to Server 2012 R2, I uninstalled VMM2012 and retained the database, installed VMM2012 R2, it upgraded the database. I was able to login with the service account and everything looked the same. The library shares were still connected but I had to remove the hosts because they were showing as "Pending..." and still showing the old OS. I re added the 2 hosts and they showed the correct OS now and all the VM's began populating, except all of the owners on them changed to the service account instead of showing the correct names. Server 4 (That was not upgraded had no issues, just needed the agent updated and its VM's still retained previous owner data)

When logging into the console with a company domain it logs in asked me what role I wanted (in this case Administrator) it lets me modify setting add/remove users and really lets me do anything except deploy VMs. Once I am on the Configure Hardware screen and hit next to go to the Configure Operating system screen it hangs for roughly 30 seconds and then gives me the error:

Error (26726) Either the specified user role or the specified user (COMPANYDOMAIN\<username>) is not valid. User is not a member of the role.

This only happens if the user is in the company domain, if I make a user within theSYSENG domain all is well.I've read through a ton of KB articles and tried just about everything, it was working with a one-way trust before, did something change from VMM2012 to 2012R2? I took a log of my recreating the issue but there is a ton of data. But I can see things like:

Pretty much all of these errors repeast themselves over and over until it fails to the error 26726

My apologies if this is a mess, but I am at a total a loss.

Cant remediate logical switch

$

Hello all!

In a lab environment using hyper v server 2012 R2 as a base

i have installed VMM, SQL 2012 and a DC, on two HP Proliant hosts.

These have been put in a HA Cluster and they are working fine with the

Hyper V switches. But i have been tasked with trying to install and

evaluate a Cisco Nexus 1000V Switch. The problem is all the troubleshooting

guides i have read take about remediating the network devices.

This lab is really simple, no vlans, no real trunkports to speak off, live migration and

heartbeat have been physically connected to the other ethernet interface on the other host

(ip address in same subnet have been configured). Storage have been connected to other network.

The management and VM traffic both go to an isolated switch and router.

My question is in order to remediate network devices, hosts etc is there a requirement

for WSUS to be configured?

Because when i click remediate nothing happens, no running jobs or history either.

My second question although a long shot, do you guys know any reasons why VMM would "kick out"

a network adapter connected to a logical switch (leaving it orphaned, adapter is visible on Hyper V host, but

not in VMM)?

Happens when the cluster is doing its compliancy check

Best regards

Peter

scvmm version (2008 R2, 2012 or 2012 R2) using powershell

Hi experts,

I want to get the SCVMM version (2008 R2 or 2012 or 2012 R2) installed in my Windows Server using powershell.

I used 'Get-SCVMMServer' cmdlet. But it is giving (for SCVMM 2012) as,

ServerInterfaceVersion                 : 2.1.0

How is this useful?

Is there a way to get the SCVMM version using powershell or script?

Thanks,

Saleem
