i'm actualy migration av ESX 5.1 server to HyperV 2012 using vmm2012.

The Hyper-v Host is connect to iSCSI Qnap HD (the destination LUN)

the VMWARE Host is connect to the same NAS on a different lun for sure.

I get this error

Error (2901)
The operation did not complete successfully because of a parameter or call sequence that is not valid.
The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)

Recommended Action
Ensure that the parameters are valid, and then try the operation again.

Please help.  If I can make this work I will migrate 6 other host to Hyper-V.

Dear all,

A weird error is rising everytime I open the VMM Admin Console.
It connects perfectly, all VM's are visible but when I refresh a VM following error is displayed:

An unknown error occurred while executing the PowerShell script:

The connection to the VMM management server <SCVMM> was lost.
Ensure that<SCVMM> is online and that you can access the server remotely from your computer. Then connect to svsim0b4.sidmar.be and try the command again using the new connection. Or, you can ensure that the Virtual Machine Manager service is started on svsim0b4.sidmar.be. Then connect to svsim0b4.sidmar.be and try the command again using the new connection. If the command fails again because of a connection failure, restart the Virtual Manager service and then try the operation again.

Try the operation again. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Help and Support.

It's pretty weird, when I open powershell (from within the console) all command work without problem and I can chance VM's.

I have installed the Console on different PC, servers but it nevers works. Always this problem.

The console only works on the SCVMM server itself.

Note:
We have two SCVMM (each for different cluster systems). The console on these servers can connect to the other one without any errors.

On all others servers (without a SCVMM, only a console) following things are missing also:
No jobs record, no VM networks visible and storage show the VM's but total Capacity and Available Capacity is always 0.

If I want to look at the properties of a VM the console crashes.

Someone an idea?

SCVMM 2008 R2 Convert Physical Machine P2V and Network Considerations

$

Currently running, but not for long as going to SCVMM 2012, a 2008 R2 SCVMM environment.  We have Virtual Machine Manager installed at our Los Angeles HQ and it manages 4 sites.  Our East Coast Site has a physical machine that we need to perform a P2V to its local HPV Cluster Host but I'm concerned the bits travel over the network between Los Angeles SCVMM system and our East Coast cluster as the P2V occurs.  Its a pretty sizable system so this would be a disaster if this occurred.

I'm hoping that the SCVMM system only issues control commands between the Physical and the Local HPV system and thus the P2V data transfer happens within the local network loop.

Can someone let me know which is the case?

Thanks

Hi Pros,

I find our vmm server very slow, further checking using Sysinternal Process monitor, found that some process non-stop happening

1. vmm read \\localhost\PIPE\winreg

2. then wmiprvse.exe read some registry keys.

Any Idea? Thanks in advance!!

How to change NVGRE gateway (Windows server) external IP ?

Hello,

Currently i am testing NVGRE gateway (windows server 2012 r2) in cluster configuration. Now everything is working. VM's and cluster resource got its IP addresses from VMM managed pool.

Now i have to change the external IP addresses of NVGRE cluster. Have to free up and delete external IP pool and create new IP pool from different subnet and make NVGRE use these new IP addresses.

Is there any way to change IP addresses of gateway without reinstalling it ?

Azure Pack - Cannot see OS or Data disks when trying to deploy a VM from a gallery resource

Hi,

I'm trying to deploy a windows 2012R2 server using a gallery resource I imported into VMM/WAP using GRIT 1.2.  I have gone through the grit wizard and set the tags, family etc for the resource but I still cannot see the OS or Data disks when I try and deploy a machine.  Has anyone else experienced this?

VMM2012R2, WAP and Windows has all the latest patches

Unable to reinstall VMM agent (2012 R2)

I uninstalled VMM agent on a host and tried to reinstall it, however I get the message "Another Virtual Machine Manager agent package is already installed. You must uninstall the existing agent first."

I'm running VMM 2012 R2 UR 3 on Server 2012 R2, the host in question is running Server Core 2012 R2. VMM agent version is 3.2.7672.0.

I looked at the install log and see "1: !VMM_Error! 2: 3":

I tried reinstalling because I was getting the following error on the host in the VMM console:

Error (20513)
The VMM management server cannot retrieve performance data for the computer. This issue may occur if the performance counter provider in the Virtual Machine Manager agent is corrupted.

Recommended Action
Restart the System Center Virtual Machine Manager Agent service on the computer. This automatically restarts the performance provider. If the error persists, reinstall the VMM agent on the computer.

scvmm agent won't start

I have a 2 node 2012 r2 cluster and it is managed with scvmm 2012 sp1 update 2

I went away on vacation and came back to find the agent service will not start.  Event log says

The System Center Virtual Machine Manager Agent service terminated with the following service-specific error:

Object is not registered

I can't uninstall the agent, as it says this is only valid for products that are installed

I can't update the agent to a newer update rollup

I have restarted the winRM service and have it erunning in it's own svchost process

also on each server when I open up hyper-v manager and try to connect to the local host I get an error

but all the clustered roles are running properly.  I think the 2 are related

any help would be appreciated

thanx

Adding 2008 R2 Failover Cluster managed by VMM 2008 to VMM 2012 R2

Hi peeps

We have the following scenario:
Hyper-V Failover cluster running Server 2008 R2, originally managed by VMM 2008
Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 running on a fresh installed Server 2012 R2

I want to add the failover cluster to the VMM 2012 R2 installation, but haven't tried it before. When adding it through VMM 2012 R2 it informs me that if managed by a different VMM it can reassociate with the current management server.

The Hyper-V failover cluster is running a production environment and I need to be sure that it isn't interrupted by the "upgrade"?

Unable to select Hyper-V host for placement of VM - not displayed

Hi all-

I am trying to create a new VM on my Hyper-V host.  When I run the Create Virtual Machine Wizard, I select "Create the new virtual machine with a blank virtual hard disk" then click Next.  On the Specify Virtual Machine Identity page, I type in TestVM for the Virtual Machine Name and select Generation 2 and click Next.  On the Configure Hardware page, I select my hardware settings and click Next.  MY PROBLEM occurs on the Select Destination page.  I select "Place the virtual machine on a host" and the click the drop-down.  My host is NOT displayed.

Environment:

Single Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host using DAS.  SCVMM 2012 R2 Server and Console installed on the Hyper-V host. NO clustering / HA setup (single host).  I have the feeling I am missing something very simple. Thanks

Run VMM Powershell Script issue

Hi All,

I am trying to automate a process in which i have used "Run VMM Powershell Script" activity in a runbook, the command which i am trying to execute using this activity is :-

$nodes=get-scvmhostcluster|select nodes

& in output variable 1 the variable is declared as $nodes but no matter i do what it returns a blank value.

the output which i am expecting is :-

Nodes
-----
{Server Name1, Server Name2, Server Name3}

but i thing as there are special characters present in the output, the variable is not able to hold the output value.

Other commands pipelined with get-scvmhostcluster which are without special characters are working fine.

I wanted to know is there any solution for this issue ?

I have gone through this article by Philip Gibson, which explains this activity in detail but i am unable to configure it using my command.

Please Help.

Thanks,

Pranay.

SCVMM 2012 - Error with PowerShell command 'Get-SCVirtualNetworkAdapterConfiguration'

Hi

I am writing a PowerShell script that creates a service from a service template, modifying the network adapter settings in the service configuration before it is deployed.  I am following the example provided on this Technet page closely:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh801320

Unfortunately when the script attempts to read the NIC configuration, I get the error :

My Script:

# Get Objects

$ServiceTemplate = get-scservicetemplate -Name "Service Template 1"

# Create Temporary Service Config
$SvcCfgName = "Temp_SVC_Config_" + (get-date -format "ddHHmmss")
$ServiceConfig = New-SCServiceConfiguration -ServiceTemplate $ServiceTemplate -Name $SvcCfgName -Cloud $Cloud -Description "Temp Service Config"

# Get the Computer Tier Object

# Get the VMConfiguration within the Tier

VMM console not remembering some columns

$

Having this problem since VMM 2012 SP1 and it's still there in 2012 R2 UR3. In the VMs view, I select the columns I want to see in the view and arrange them as I want them to be. So far so good. When I close and reopen the console, it remembers MOST columns, but not all.

For example I've included the "Maximum Memory" column in the view, but no matter what, after closing and reopening the console, this column is always missing.

Why doesn't the console remember this column and how can I fix this? (this is so far the only one that I've noticed that doesn't save in the view).

preinstalling OS and roles to a passthrough disk in SCVMM 2012 R2?

$

Technet firends,

I have scoured the internet for an answer to a fairly simple question:

"can I create a template and use that to automatically install an OS and roles etc. to a passthrough disk?"

The idea is to use LUNs for direct passthrough disks in a HA cluster to improve the performance capabilities of the VM's.

I have noticed that this limits the abilities regarding templates and how they can be made (for example, one cannot create a template from a VM using a passthrough disk.). If it is not possible to have SCVMM perform this kind of operation using VM templates, then what methods could I use to automate the process of installing the OS, server roles, and license keys?

The end goal is to use passthrough disks as the drives for the VM's, but to still be able to provision the server with most (if not all) its configuration and software installed automatically.

Any guidance in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

-Jared

Connecting to SCVMM remotely via install on workstation cannot run console windows to VMs (locally on scvmm it works)

We recently installed a SCVMM 2012 machine and connected it to a few HyperV2012 hosts.

From the SCVMM console locally on the machine it is installed on, I can connect to the Console of the VMs on the remote HyperV machines.  However for some reason when I run it remotely from my workstation, I can connect to SCVMM just fine, but connecting to the console of the VMs gives me the error:

Virtual Machine Manager lost the connection to the virtual machine for one of the following reasons:
Another connection was established to the console of this manchine.
The virtual machine has been shut down or put into the saved state.
The user credentials do not have the necessary privilege to connect.
0x0003, 0x0000

The firewall is not detecting any dropped packets (I enabled logging) and I am logging in with the same user as I do locally to the SCVMM server, so it is not permissions.

Any advice would be extremely helpful.  Thanks,

Nicholas

SCVMM 2012 R2 - P2V conversio n capability removed - Any plan for replacement tool & Alternatives?

$

Hello forum users,

I am working for a local Service Provider which is also a Microsoft Certified Partner.

My post is related with the P2V capability removal from SCVMM 2012 R2. Given that the specific product functionality change affects not only an internal consolidation project, but also service delivery at customers who have already installed & deployed SCVMM2012 R2, i would appreciate for clarifications & responses on the following questions:

1) what is the business justification & reasoning behind this VMM functionality limitation, treated as "change by design"?

2) Which are the alternatives for those who have installed SCVMM2012 R2 and need P2V capability apart from downgrading to SCVMM 2012 SP1?

3) Is there a plan for a replacement tool or P2V "recall" on SCVMM next release or service pack?

Any clarification & response will be much appreciated.

Cheers Nick.

VMM 2012 R2 vmmservice.exe crashes with System.InvalidCastException

Hi

We're running VMM 2012 R2 to monitor a Hyper-V cluster running on 4 Windows Server 2008 R2 hosts. VMM service is installed on a Windows 2012 R2 server that is also a domain controller.

If I use the VMM GUI to put a host into maintenance mode, or when I reboot a host that is in maintenance mode, vmmservice.exe often crashes with the following logged in the eventlog:

Application: vmmservice.exe

Appears to be 4/5 of the way done (4 of 5 bars are blue). Installing features. Green bar continues to zip across over and over.

Installing VMM Console. Been sitting like this for some time now.
