Hi,

Is there a way to get the 'summary' tab which is displayed in the Hyper-V manager which shows a screenshot of the active machine? I can't seem to find this functionality in SCVMM.

Thanks,

Dave

SCVMM 2012 R2

Cluster with 2 nodes/hosts

Deployed several VM's without any problem. Migrating between the hosts is no problem.

Now I want to create a service template, just deploying a simple webserver. I created a new VM, sysprepped it en saved it as a template.

I also created OS profile, Hardware profile etc. to automatically deploy the service template. When deploying the Service Template is all seems to go well until the action: ' Install VM components' This action fails after a couple of seconds with the error below:

====

Error (22042)
The service Testdeploy was not successfully deployed. Review the event log to determine the cause and corrective actions.

Recommended Action
The deployment can be restarted by retrying the job.

Error (2912)
An internal error has occurred trying to contact the host1.domain.local server: : .

WinRM: URL: [http://host1.domain.local:5985], Verb: [INVOKE], Method: [HWScoutOffline], Resource: [http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/scvmm/P2VServerJob]

The configuration registry database is corrupt (0x800703F1)

Recommended Action
Check that WS-Management service is installed and running on server host1.domain.local. For more information use the command "winrm helpmsg hresult". If host1.domain.local is a host/library/update server or a PXE server role then ensure that VMM agent is installed and running. Refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2742275 for more details.

====

First I checked all WinRM related issues, this is all good, connecting without a problem. Removed one host from the cluster, removed certiftcate from the Trusted People certificate store on the SCVMM server. Added the host again, certificate being created automatically, but still the same error. Checked the SPN names, GPO settings for WinRM, but I'm stuck at the moment. Has anybody have any clue on this one to point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

Create a Security Role with access to all VMs within a cloud

So, I want to create a role that will just get access to all VMs in a cloud. I created a new role, and in Scope, I selected my cloud, I noticed I could manually specify each VM under resources, but I'd prefer not to have to go in here and change it every time I add a new VM to that cloud, but if I leave it blank, they see a cloud, and nothing under VMs... there must be a way to show people all the VMs.

I'm using Clouds to scope VMs to groups of people and manage quota/resources, so I'd like a role that gives people access to see all VMs within a particular cloud, without having to go in EVERY time and manually add them.

I should mention, the base user type I used was "Application Administrator (Self-Service User)".

Get-SCJob hangs in Virtual Machine Manager

Hello.

I have installed Virtual Machine Manager in a development pc and i think it really doesn't work. This is my scenario:

a)I'm connected to the vmm server  , open the console(gui) and delete a few VMs.

b)Open the VMM in the development pc.I can see that they are deleted.Progress is displayed but never updated.

I have to re open the vmm in order to see that they have finished.

My second problem is that i open a powershell(via the vmm console or via powershell).

I connect to the server , type Get-SCJob and pressing enter. It will never finish.I have to kill the process.

Any ideas?

SCVMM 2012 - VM Stuck in Sysprepping

During a creation of a Template from an already Syspreped system it failed.  It's now just stuck in Sysprepping mode and will not allow me to delete it, repair it or start it.  All options are greyed out.  When I click on the VM it crashes the VMM Console.  I'm seeing event ID 1 and 19999.

How do I remove this failed VM?

VMM Shared ISO error "User account does not have permission required to open attachment"

I had this error once because the local service account was selected during installation of VMM.  I have reinstalled VMM with a Domain service account and the error went away.  However, the error is back.

"User account does not have permission required to open attachment '\\[servername]\VMMLibrary\server.ISO'. Error: 'General access denied error' (0x80070005). (Virtual machine ID GUID)"

I tried to create this VM on Host1 and got the error.

I then went to Host2 and was able to create the VM while using the same ISO on the same VMM library that failed on the Host1.

Both hosts have agent 3.2.7634.0 and are both running Hyper-V Server 2012 R2.

What is wrong with Host1 and how do I correct it?

Thank you.

Hello.

2 Days ago, we had a crash in our Hyper-V enviroment.

After getting back online, we are not able to use our SCVMM 2012 R2 console.

I have checked the following, to resolve the issue:

Checked that the System Center Virtual Machine Manager Agent Service is running - and can be restarted (no errors)

Restarted the SCVMM and SQL Server

Checked that the SQL Server hosting the SCVMM is accesable, and that i can view the data inside it (not corrupted)

Ive checked this link, but it dosent solve the issue:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/4900.system-center-2012-virtual-machine-manager-vmm-error-codes-1500-1999.aspx

Im starting to run out of ideas now, and hoped that you Guys had some :)

one of our fileshares has ObjectState = pending (see below query). it seems fully functional (with the slight irregularity of having FreeSpace > Capacity ...)

1. can anyone say what this state means / when does this change ?

2. is this storage currently safe for usage (VM /disk placement) ?

SCVMM and network

Hello everyone,

I've a project to create a Microsoft lab for my users.

I have one HyperV core 2012 R2 and one SCVMM 2012 R2.

My users will creat virtual machine using app controler (app controler is already install and work fine)

I've watch many website and explications about networks on SCVMM but I'm stranded. I look for an easy solution where my user (called user1, user2, user3) will be able to creat VM on networks (network1, network2 and network3)

This network are independant and are not allowed to ping each other but a user can creat many VM on his network (of courses, VM on the same network can ping together)

I've watch VMnetwork, logical network... but it don't work. :(

can someone help me please

thank you so much and sorry for my english level ^^, I hope my post is understandable.

best regards, Blomme Geoffrey

Error (23317)
The operation Change properties of virtual machine is not permitted on a virtual machine that has shared virtual hard disks.

Recommended Action
The operation Change properties of virtual machine is not permitted on a virtual machine that has shared virtual hard disks.

Is this limitation by design? If we have a shared VHDX between two VMs, then I am not able to change the VM properties from SCVMM.

Help understanding SCVMM 2012 networking

$

My background is in Hyper-V Manager and I have been using it to create virtual switches (External, Internal, Private) and then connect VMs to them.  This is simple for me and easy to wrap my head around.

Now, I am playing with SCVMM 2012 and I am confused about the networking presented here.

I don't understand the difference between creating logical networks, creating VM networks, logical switches, virtual switches, being asked about uplinks, ports and IP-pools.

When I added my Hyper-V hosts to the SCVMM, it recognized an external switch I created and placed it under Fabrics - Logical Networks.  I just want to be able to mimic the functionality of having a virtual switch so do I create a logical network or a logical switch or what?

I am just confused with this new terminology and technology and if anyone could help me out that'd be great.

How to Uninstall a failed Virtual Machine Management Server (x64) installation ?

Dear Technet Team,

I cannont uninstall the Virtual Machine Management Server (x64). Already tried it with the Installation Image. The Uninstalling process suddenly crashed without no error. I delete everything so far DB as well because it was never in use. So how can I uninstall the Management Server. I did not install it a Cluster as well.

By the way i tried it with wmic but there i got "no instance available" error. I am stucking with this quite a while. I messed it up really hard so i think i must manually delete all regestry keys because i already delete some. Is there a way to uninstall it Forcefully ?

Thank you!

Yours sincerely,

Tobias

SCVMM Network Virtualization - Forwarding gateway

$

Hi All,

I have scvmm set up in a lab and am looking to get network virtualization working in various different scenarios.

At the moment I have 2 clusters: 1 for "production" and 1 for virtualization gateways.

The production cluster hosts  management and tenant vm networks and the virtualization gateway cluster has a single host setup as a dedicated virtualization gateway and hosts a RRAS vm configured as a network service.

My tenant VM network is configured for direct routing and my Network service is configured with the following string:

VMHost=lab6.lab.com;GatewayVM=nvg1.lab.com;DirectRoutingMode=True;FrontEndServerAddress=10.0.0.27

I have a physical layer 3 switch with routes configured for the PA network and a default route to the internet.

VMs on my tenant network can contact servers on my physical management network and vice versa (on different subnets) but cannot access the internet. I assume that my tenant network is missing a default route but I'm not sure where to configure it - the VM network gateway is created automatically and I don't seem to be able to configre RRAS on the network service vm.

Thanks in advance.

problems uninstalling SCVMM 2012 RC

Hi,

I'm currently trying to uninstall the SCVMM 2012 RC, but before I pass the page Retain/Delete DB, the wizard dies, I've check the log SetupWizard.log, and it shows this error.

09:20:10:Uncaught Exception: Threw Exception.Type: Microsoft.VirtualManager.Utils.CarmineException, Exception.Message: VMM cannot access registry key value MachineName under Software\Microsoft\Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager Server\Settings\Sql.

I've try adding the key MachineName to Software\Microsoft\Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager Server\Settings\Sql. but the error still appears.

anyone can help me with this?

VM with GPT passthru disk - unsupported cluster configuration

$

Hi. We're having an issue with VMs that have GPT passthru disks attached. This problem dates back to VMM 2008 and it apperas it still hasn't been fixed.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/13d378a4-93f1-4845-99fa-9172dca588e5/unsupported-vm-configuration

Is there any way to be able to work with these VMs in VMM? Refreshing in VMM does nothing, on the contrary, it breaks the VM's access to the passthru disk. I've observed that when I try to "Repair" the VM from VMM, all it does is a refresh, which in turn removes the passthru disk cluster resource from the VM and it loses access to the disk. The only way to get it back is to Refresh the VM from Failover Cluster Manager.

Env: VMM 2012 R2 (UR3) managing 2 clusters (2008 R2 and 2012) - the issue occurs in both clusters.

Note: there's only 1 GPT passthru disk attached to each VM

Vmm console Unable to connect to the VMM management server localhost

I received this error no matter who'e credentials I use.  The virtual machine manager is running and I did restart it and still caannot connect.  I also tried, based on one suggestion, changing the virtual machine manager service logon to a domain account and I received the following error when tring to restart the service:

Error 1297; A PRIVILEGE THAT THE SERVICE REQUIRES TO FUNCTION PROPERLYDOES NOT EXIST IN THE SERVICE ACCOUNT CONFIGURATION

When I googled that error the suggestion was to make sure the logon account was part of the create global objects.  That didn't help.

What else can I try.
