Update Rollups - How to install them
Hi,
we have deployed a fresh System Center 2012 R2 Private Cloud with all SC components.
MS has release 3 RU's so far, my question is, do I directly install UR3 or do I start with installing UR1, followed by UR2 & UR3?

Live Migration Slow - Maxes Out
Hi everyone...
I have a private 10GB network that all of my Hyper-V hosts are connected to. I have told VMM to use this network for live migrations.
Using performance monitor, I see that the migration is using this private network. Unfortunately, it will only transfer at 100MB per second.
There must be a parameter somewhere to say "Use all the bandwidth you need...."
It is worth mentioning that I also backup the virtual machines using this same network to our backup server, and the transfer rates goes to 10GB per second.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

SCVMM 2012 R2 installation - impossible prerequisites
During installation wizard, before the actual installation begins, SCVMM 2012 R2 wizard checks prerequisites and reports that "Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit" is missing. However the link to this kit is taking me to a site "we're sorry we couldn't find the item" and all other searches on the internet to download this kit land on the same website "we're sorry...".
This item is not possible to download and install and SCVMM install wizard will not continue until this item is installed.
How to work around that to proceed with the installation of scvmm 2012 r2?
thanks
Get-SCVMMTemplate reports TotalVHDCapacity of 0, somewhat random
Windows 2012 R2 Update 1 + rollup with SCVMM 2012 R2 Rollup 1,2, &3. Thin vhdx created using the script from http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Convert-WindowsImageps1-0fe23a8f and imported as templates.
Some of our templates report a TotalVHDCapacity of 0. It appears to be random as we have multiple SCVMM with the same vhdx imported - but once it happens to a vhdx on an SCVMM server I have not figured how to make it refresh / "go away". Has anyone ever seen this and found a work-around? I have not found any negative effect from this oddity, provisioning from those vhdx works. I use the command:
(Get-SCVMTemplate) | format-table name, totalvhdcapacity
Host Not Responding - Needs Assistance
I have two Hyper-V Failover Clusters which are managed by VMM 2012 R2 Cluster. I have all the settings in place on Hyper-V Hosts such as Firewall Access in the shape of Ports as well as Program (vmmAgent.exe). Antivirus has exceptions placed in for:
• Default virtual machine configuration directory (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V)
• Custom virtual machine configuration directories
• Default virtual hard disk drive directory (C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks)
• Custom virtual hard disk drive directories
• Snapshot directories
• Vmms.exe
• Vmwp.exe
• All VHD, VHDX, AVHD, VSV and ISO files
Still I get error after adding both of the Hyper-V Failover Clusters that Hosts Need Attention, Hosts Not Responding or Needs Assistance. Once thing that I noticed is that when there are fewer nodes in the VMM 2012 R2 that is only one Hyper-V Failover Cluster that has less number of nodes, everything works, but when I add the other Hyper-V Failover Cluster into VMM, I start facing connection issues with hosts.
Could it be caused by Memory?
Would appreciate any headway into this; has really stumped me. Thanks.
Get-SCJob / Get-Job alias conflicts
Unfortunately, the Get-SCJob SCVMM command was aliased to Get-Job , which is a command that comes with Windows / Powershell natively..
In order to get around this awesome (sarcasm) problem, if you are trying to get to the Windows jobs, you have to reference the fully qualified command, which is:
Microsoft.PowerShell.Core\Get-Job
Otherwise, you'll always get the results from Get-SCJob whether you intended to or not.
Have an open case on this, no hotfix / fix date supplied yet.

Error 13641 - The Subnet prefix must be between the starting and ending values
Hi All,
I can honestly say hand on heart that this is the first time I have ever asked for help in a forum in over 15 years but this is doing my head in..
I have a Sys Center 2012 R2 deployment.. VMM R2 up to RU3, Edge Cluster (2 hosts), Management Cluster (2 hosts), 2 x Production Compute Clusters (total of 20 hosts). I have a HA Network Virt Gateway deployed on the edge cluster.
All Hosts have the new DHCP install done and the RU3 SQL patch is completed as outlined in deployment manual.
Everything had been running fine for some time after RU3 update... I am experiencing an issue whereby I get the following error anytime I try and attach a NVGRE VM network to a VM, or when I try and migrate a VM with a NVGRE network attached to another host.
Error (13641)
The specified subnet prefix must be between the starting and ending values for the range.
Starting value: 4
Ending value: 30
Recommended Action
Specify a suitable subnet prefix.
All subnets in the entire network are /24's so prefix isn't an issue.
I can successfully attach a standard vm network but get the above error when working with NVRGE networks..
Further to this, if I restart VMM the DHCP function to VM's with NVGRE networks doesn't get picked up until I trigger a change in config on the VM, then it will get IP and function as expected.
I have checked all logs, there aren't any errors that I can see.
get-netvirtualizationlookuprecord throws out VM's and PA's as expected, but again not until I manually interfere with the VM in question.
Have any of you come across this before?? I want to check before I go rebuilding the PA network entirely and having to cleanup all existing VM networks to do it..
Any help or guidance would be appreciated..
Cheers
Nathan
VMM on sc2012sp1 - Console Add-in Issue
I'm using vmm on sc2012sp1 and importing a console add-in to it. I browse for the .zip file of the add-in, and it gives me a warning that the add-in could potentially behave maliciously. I tick "continue installing this add-in anyway" at the bottom, but even when I do so I cannot continue with the installation. The "Next" button remains greyed out.
I've tried installing this same add in using vmm on sc2012r2, and it works just fine. I get the same warning, but when I tick "continue installing this add-in anyway" I can continue the installation properly. So this issue seems to be only appearing when I'm using the sp1 version of vmm. Any ideas on what the issue could be?
Cannot add virtual machine to cluster Hyper-V
When installing VM from a VM templet it shows the error.

how to on -gathering statistics of how much a VM is actually used?
I have a SCVMM 2012 SP1 system managing a bunch of 2012 R2 host servers. What I am looking to do is to gather statistics and create a report that would tell me how often a system is being used.
I can figure out how to get uptime, but what I am looking to do is to weed out VMs that are no longer used, or seldom used over the course of a year. Even getting stats of when a VM was started or stopped would help me with this.
Install & Manage Servers with SCVMM
I have more than 30 or 40 Servers. in my datacenter. Can i install SCVMM to manage them none of servers are connected in AD all running independently(Workgroup). Can any one help me with installing SCVMM without AD infra. Managing 30 to 40 servers making me crazy.

Licensing SQL Server Standard on a separate server than System Center
Hi,
Is it supported to install a SQL Standard on a separate machine for all System Center products?
I know that SQL Standard license is included in all System Center products, however it doesn't specify if I have to install it on the same machine or I can install it on a different server?
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Maximum size of a virtual pool in SCVMM 2012R2
I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 running SCVMM 2012 R2 and an over-committed virtual storage pool. In Server Manager the capacity of this storage pool is 128TB which translates to 140TiB which makes sense since the maximum allowed size by the storage array is 140TiB. This same storage pool is shown under VMM with the size of 131,072GB (131TB) which is 144TiB.
Where is this size coming from? Is this the maximum size allowed by the SCVMM? Or does SCVMM use different measurement units?
The VMMAgentInstaller service terminated with service-specific error %%-2146041839.
I am trying to upgrade the VMM agent on SCVMM 2012 from 3.1.6011.0 to 3.1.6027.0. When I run the update I get 'access denied" on the VMM console. In the system error log on the Hyper-V server is see error message:
The VMMAgentInstaller service terminated with service-specific error %%-2146041839.
I verified that the userid I was using was in the local administrator's group. I tried using other userid's and got the same message. I successfully update the agent on five other servers with no problem, and I can't see any difference between the servers.
Intermittent Connectivity with Hyper-V Hosts
I am getting this error when I click Refresh Virtual Machine on my cluster nodes:
Error (2932)
VMM is unable to complete the request. The connection to the VMM agent on the virtualization server (NODE2) was lost.
The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request (0x800703E3)
Recommended Action
Ensure that the Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) service and the VMM agent are installed and running and that a firewall is not blocking HTTPS
traffic.
This problem can also be caused by antivirus software that is installed in the parent partition of the virtualization server (NODE2) if the real-time
scanning component is configured to monitor the Hyper-V virtual machine files. For more details on how to resolve the issue look into KB 961804,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/961804.
If the error still persists, restart the server (NODE2), and then try the operation again.
PS: VMM Agent is running, Firewall is allowing traffic and WS-Management is also running.
Are there any special settings required that I am missing.
Updating service templates
Hi I'm sure I'm missing something very simple here.
I have a bunch of service templates based around the same base VHD. Every 6 months we update the base VHD and want to update the templates. The VHD is created outside of VMM.
So we copy the new VHD to the library share, give it the same name and family name as the current version and update the release.
My question now is how do I convince VMM that this is an updated version of an existing file, such that I can go into service templates select the template and click copy and update?
At the moment copy and update is always disabled, so I have to create a copy and manually change the VHD in the VMs in the template.
Thanks,
Stephen.
VMM 2012 R2 cannot access hosts after UR3
Today I applied UR 3 on SCVMM 2012 R2 , by using the below instructions . Also ran the SQL script , but there was o/p (no error) .After that all the hosts says need attention and upgrade available .I did try to update the agent but no luck . They are failing with the below error . I have ensured that winrm is enabled on the host as well VMM. Please note that the VMM environment was working before I applied the update . I am new to SCVMM , please help
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2965414/en-us
VMM does not have appropriate permissions to access the resource on the server.
Ensure that Virtual Machine Manager has the appropriate rights to perform this action.
Also, verify that CredSSP authentication is currently enabled on the service configuration of the target computer server . To enable the CredSSP on the service configuration of the target computer, run the following command from an elevated command line: winrm set winrm/config/service/auth @{CredSSP="true"}
